Welcome to the Office of Research Development of the DeWitt Daughtry Family Department of Surgery at University of Miami School of Medicine.

Established in 2008, the Office of Research Development functions as a vital resource to the various divisions within the Department of Surgery that require additional support to conduct research activities.

The Office of Research Development offers a wide array of services ranging from funding searches, proposal development and submission, award administration, protocol development, purchasing on a grant, developing a research program: recruitment, equipment, space, funding; if you have a question on where and how to do research at UM, we suggest you start with this office.

The Department of Surgery currently conducts over 100 active research projects amounting to over $35 million in committed funding from a variety of sources including the National Institutes of Health and the Department of Defense.

Internationally renowned works in fields such as Islet Cell Transplantation, Notch Signaling, Trauma Surgical Training & Telemedicine, Immunosuppression & Liver Transplantation, and more, take place in approximately 45,000 square feet of research space spread across 11 locations on the medical campus, including the UM/Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, Jackson Memorial Hospital East Tower, Miami VA Medical Center, Rosenstiel Medical Science Building, Diabetes Research Institute, McKnight Building, and Ryder Trauma Center.
