The Division of General Surgery at the University of Miami School of Medicine provides patients with definitive diagnosis and surgical treatment of a complete spectrum of complex upper intestinal (foregut) problems, including:

  • Esophageal
  • Gastric
  • Duodenal
  • Hepatobiliary including liver resections for benign and malignant tumors and biliary resections and reconstructions for benign and malignant diseases
  • Pancreatic including pancreatic resections for benign and malignant diseases

The division offers surgical procedures for a variety of pathologies located in the abdomen and intestinal tract, with specific expertise in liver, pancreas, and biliary surgery. The division also performs surgery for the esophagus, stomach, small intestine, and large intestine, as well as benign and malignant diseases. This division also performs surgery for endocrine tumors of the pancreas and has the expertise to perform laparoscopic surgery for adrenal tumors.

Two full-time surgical attending physicians run the Division of General Surgery. Together they provide the basis and structure for the care of private and staff referrals and admittance to the 30 allotted beds at Jackson Memorial Hospital where all general surgery patients are seen and treated.
