The Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the University of Miami School of Medicine's DeWitt Daughtry Family Department of Surgery is well regarded as one of the premier cardiothoracic centers in the world. The division was established prior to the founding of the University of Miami School of Medicine and was integrated into the academic mission of the medical school in the 1960s. Since its inception, it has earned an excellent reputation for its innovative cardiothoracic approaches, its outstanding team of surgeons and the compassionate care provided to its patients.

We have two locations in which our surgeons perform a full range of services, under the leadership of two of the most recognized and experienced cardiac surgeons. Dr. Tomas A. Salerno, Chief of Cardiothoracic Surgery at University of Miami /Jackson Memorial Hospital , Miller School of Medicine and Dr. Donald B. Williams, Chief of Cardiac Surgery at UHealth, University of Miami Hospital. Both of these locations are part of the University of Miami Health System.

With a “dream team” of brilliant, exceptionally skilled physicians at both locations this world-renowned cardiothoracic surgical division is equipped to perform a full range of services ranging from routine corrective procedures to multi-organ transplants. Each year, hundreds of patients are able to resume active, healthy lifestyles due to our physicians’ skills and dedication.
