Dr. Eli Avisar is fluent in English, French, Hebrew and Italian.  He earned his undergraduate and medical degree from the Hebrew University and Hadassah Medical School, Israel.  He completed his Surgical Residency at Beth Israel Medical Center, New York.  After his Residency, he completed a Surgical Oncology fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania . Dr. Eli Avisar is currently an Associate Professor of Surgery in the DeWitt Daughtry Family Department of Surgery at University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. He also serves as the Medical Director of the Taylor Breast Health Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital and as Co-Leader of the Breast Site Disease Group at the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Clinical Specialties

Cancer surgery is the primary clinical interest for Dr. Avisar's.  Specifically: Breast cancer, melanoma and sarcoma, esophageal, stomach, liver and pancreatic tumors.

Secondary interests  include esopahgeal, stomach liver and pancreatic diseases.

 

Research Interests

Dr. Avisar's research interests include: sentinel node technology, intra-operative PET applications, breast cancer prevention and early detection, ablative therapies (photodynamic therapy, laser, cryotherapy and radiofrequency ablation), neo-adjuvant therapies for esophageal, liver, pancreas and breast cancers.

Personal Statement

My goal as the Breast site disease co–leader at the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center of the University of Miami, is to develop a multidisciplinary patient friendly and highly academic comprehensive breast health center, that will be nationally recognized and considered the major South Florida tertiary care facility.

As a cancer surgeon, my goal is to provide the appropriate surgical care at the right time within the multifaceted cancer care.
