Welcome
The University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Medical Center is among the top three medical centers in the United States for all types of organ transplantation. Each year, more than 20,000 people nationwide receive organ transplants. As a result, lives are prolonged, dreams are renewed, and quality of life is enhanced beyond measure. The University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Medical Center sees and treats patients from all over the world, and its transplant specialists perform about 500 transplants each year, including some that are performed nowhere else in the country.
In addition to providing hope and help for patients in need of transplants, the medical center has another mandate: to welcome all patients needing transplants, regardless of the organ or disease. Additionally, all the medical center’s transplant programs are members of the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS). This is the central agency in the United States that is responsible for equitable allocation of organs. These affiliations provide University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Medical Center patients with the best opportunities to receive new organs.
Led by one of the best transplant teams in the world, the Division of Kidney and Pancreas Transplantation at the University of Miami School of Medicine is widely known for its innovative procedures and high success rates following transplants. Combining the expertise of University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Medical Center physicians, nurses, and staff who are trained in state-of-the-art medical and surgical techniques for comprehensive kidney and pancreas transplant care, the division is well respected for its excellent clinical outcomes and personalized treatment. This highly trained staff ensures comprehensive evaluation and management of patients before and after transplant.
In April 2002, following a generous endowment, the kidney transplantation program was renamed the Lilliam Jean Kaplan Renal Transplantation Center.
