Division Overview
The Division of Pediatric Surgery at the University of Miami School of Medicine provides skilled and comprehensive surgical care for children from birth to adolescence. This respected division specializes in pediatric trauma, oncology, and non-cardiac thoracic surgery. All care is delivered exclusively by the division’s highly experienced pediatric surgical team.
The division utilizes a six-bed Pediatric Surgical Special Care Unit house at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Medical Center which cares for infants and toddlers with unique surgical problems such as tracheoesophageal fistula, gastroschisis, and intestinal failure. This unit complements the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and allows perioperative care, including mechanical ventilation, nutrition, and treatment of infectious diseases to be coordinated by the surgeon. The 126-bed NICU at our medical center is one of the busiest and most respected neonatal services in the country. It is a member of the Neonatal Network, a national organization featuring 15 of the busiest neonatal facilities that participate in cooperative pediatric studies.
