Welcome

The Division of Vascular Access of the University of Miami School of Medicine's DeWitt Daughtry Family Department of Surgery is highly regarded as a pioneer in research and vascular access. Vascular access is the circulatory site that allows the connection between the patient's circulation and a dialysis machine, or the means by which a patient is connected to an artificial kidney machine. Vascular access is performed on patients with renal failure, which oftentimes can be a result of diabetes, hypertension, cancer of the kidney or it can be congenital. Renal failure is the result of kidneys failing to function properly, or not being able to rid the body of toxins and excess fluids.
