Urgency

Together with Automatic Crash Notification (ACN) systems, which identifies the occurrence and location of a crash severe enough to deploy an automobile's air bags, the William Lehman Injury Research Center has helped in the development, application, validation, and enhancement of a computer algorithm known as URGENCY. The algorithm uses data that can be observed at the crash scene or that can be measured by vehicle sensors. Future plans are expected to include:

  • Develop and apply URGENCY to predict injury risk based on observed data from the crash site.
  • Develop and improve URGENCY to predict injury risk based on observed data available from sensors onboard the vehicle.
  • Published validation results from URGENCY in frontal crashes, based on CIREN Data data.
  • Develop and publish improvements for URGENCY algorithm to improve its accuracy.
